Q: Is there any issue bigger that climate change right now? If so, what is it?

A: Yes, it's amazing that people focus on something (global warming) that's subtle, contentious and on the distant horizon when the wholesale destruction of our planet is right in front of our face. 80% of the world's forests have already been destroyed, species are dying out due to human causes faster than in any other extinction event in Earth's history, the oceans are filling up with plastic bags, etc. etc. We're destroying it all, at a rapid pace, and our way of living is utterly unsustainable, even in the relatively short term. Not to mention all extreme animal suffering probably on the scale of millions due to factory farming.

It's unbelievable that in the face of all this, people focus and even debate with the possibility of global warming, as if this is the only thing than necessitates curbing our wildly destructive pattern of consumerism.. I have a theory that the truth of what we're doing is just too much for humanity to face at this time, so they'd rather just focus on something in the distance that hints at it..
